Getting Started With Raspberry Pi 900w

A series of public, day-long and hands-on events, are being planned to introduce Digital Making activities, that are fun as well as educational, to both adults and young people in the Marlborough area. The series of events will focus upon the use of the low cost Raspberry Pi computer, and meetings such as these are therefore known as Raspberry Jams smiley.

The first Marlborough Town Hall Raspberry Jam will be on Sunday 4th March 2018, with a second one scheduled for Sunday 20th May 2018.

An extraordinarily rapid Fourth Industrial Revolution is now upon us, driven by a range of technologies that are blurring the lines between the physical, digital and biological spheres. Equipping both adults and young people for a changing society, and the world of work that is emerging, is therefore becoming ever more vital, especially in the context of recent reports which estimate that 90% of all new jobs will require digital skills to some degree

Anyone that is interested in gaining some understanding of the rapidly developing use of technology both in the workplace and generally within society, or just wants some fun playing with a range of digital projects should drop in to these free events.

The format of each event is still being developed, but they will all be open, day-long events held in the Court Room of Marlborough Town Hall. A range of demonstration and hands-on workshop activities are being planned to include the following:

  • a basic introduction to the Raspberry Pi, the small computer used to control many of the projects developed in the various activities;
  • a series of live demonstrations of some typical projects that anyone could undertake, e.g. various robotics, time lapse photography, home automation projects, etc.
  • an ‘open’ area where anyone can bring their own project to show and/or to get some advice,
  • hands-on workshop sessions that allow anyone to ‘have a go’ using the MADT Digital Making Kits to make up one or more projects – where individual 60 minute slots can be pre-booked to guarantee being able to try something out (details of the booking process to be published shortly)

More information will be added here soon, but if you would like to learn more, help, or participate in some way, please contact us by email here.
